"I have been looking everywhere for about 15 years, north and south, between Cabo and Sicily, for a special place to winter. I wanted warm—warm climate and water warm enough to snorkel, a real community, safe and good fresh food, everything in walking distance and easy to get to. Last fall, a dear friend called me, so excited about a place she had just found in Mexico that I packed my bags for a week to take a look. I ended up staying for six months!
"Practically upon arrival, I was enchanted with San Pancho. It is for the most part, untouched by tourism. It is a peaceful, safe, family-based village with five schools and a growing community of artists and musicians. Mostly, I love that the people are wonderfully friendly and that I feel very safe. It is a village out of time, where some of the men still go to work on horseback and where horses run wild on the beach. Even in December, the water is so warm that you can’t tell where your skin ends and the ocean begins.
